Maths

Subject leader: Mrs Ryan

At St Mary's we place great emphasis on calculating skills, involving both mental and formal written calculations. Parents often ask for advice about how to support their children with calculations . Sometimes parents don't wish to confuse things by teaching children new methods, but don't know how we do things in school. We have made the 4 videos below to demonstrate the methods children will be expected to use by the end of Year 6. Please click on the title to view each video.

Whilst your children learn about numbers and maths at school, there are also lots of ways that you can support your child at home in their learning. It doesn’t have to be by doing pages of sums-there are lots of fun activities and games you can play with them to support them in their learning. Try to integrate maths into your everyday life as much as possible! It is really  important to show children that maths is a life skill and not just something we need to learn at school.

Here are some useful websites to help you support your child in their learning.
