Uniform at St Mary’s is an important part of instilling pride and high expectations, protecting students and supporting effective teaching and learning.

Aims and Objectives

Our policy is based on the idea that school uniform:                                                                                                      

  • Promotes a sense of pride in the school
  • Helps to establish a strong school community
  • Is practical and smart
  • Helps children feel equal to their peers
  • Is suitable for school and is seen to be good value for money
  • Is designed with health and safety in mind

A high standard of personal appearance is expected of all children.

  • Hair colour and style must be appropriate for school. Long hair should be tied back
  • Children are not allowed to wear jewellery, except for watches and small stud earrings which must be removed before PE
  • Any deviation from the uniform must be accompanied with a note to the class teacher.

The role of parents

We ask all parents and carers to support our school’s uniform policy. It is their responsibility to ensure that their child has the correct uniform and that it is clean and in good condition, with every item clearly marked with a name. Winter Uniform

1stMonday in October until the end of the Spring Term


*     Navy school sweatshirt or cardigan with the school logo on

*     Light blue school polo shirt with the school logo on

*     Grey school trousers, grey school skirt or grey school pinafore

*     Plain grey or plain white socks.

*     Plain grey or plain navy tights


Summer Uniform

From the start of the Summer Term until the 1st Monday in October


*     Dark navy blue gingham check school summer dress

*     Grey school shorts or grey school culottes

*     Light blue polo shirt with the school logo on

*     Navy school sweatshirt or cardigan with the school logo on

*     Plain grey or plain white socks


School shoes

School shoes should be sensible, suitable for school and plain black. Shoes may be of a trainer style, though leather is better for your child’s feet.
They must be plain black and not branded sports trainers. Knee high boots and shoes with large heels are not permitted. Open toed sandals are not appropriate for school.

 PE Uniform

All children require a PE kit, to be left in school on their peg, in a suitable PE bag.

*     White school PE t-shirt with St Mary’s printed in your child’s house colour

*     Plain blue shorts

*     Non-marking soled plimsolls or trainers


Optional Items

*     Navy school fleece with the school logo on

*     School sun cap with the school logo on

*     School Book bag with the school logo on (Reception – Year 3)

*     PE bag with the school logo on

Please clearly label every item of your child’s uniform. It will help us repatriate any mis-laid uniform quickly. Our uniform suppliers also offer a name tape service.
